Swedish Mobile Broadband to Substitute Fixed Line

Mobile broadband is very likely to substitute fixed line internet in Sweden as users have increased their data usage by almost 100% in 2008, strongly suggesting the possibility of a strong growth for at least a few more years.

The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency came up with a report recently, which points out that data traffic on the mobile broadband network in Sweden increased by as much as four times last year, showing the huge growth in the use of the services. Stimulated by the highly competitive prices of the country’s mobile broadband services, Sweden features in the top countries as far as mobile broadband usage is concerned - click for info on UK best mobile broadband.

In addition, according to a senior partner at Rewheel, a telecoms consultancy in Helsinki, the monthly data usage by subscribers of mobile broadband saw a hundred percent increase in 2008 giving stiff competition to the fixed-line providers and reasserting the potential of substituting fixed-line services with mobile broadband.

However, one of the problems with the prospect is that of profitability. No doubt more people are willing to take up mobile broadband but it is common knowledge that operators are trying to grab market share from fixed line providers by not only providing services at same cost but sometimes even lower, resulting in losses.

Though mobile broadband is more likely to have a great future as more consumers opt for it, experts in the field suggest that the market will have to work out new pricing policies before it sees sustainable presence across the country.
